Simple homemade beeswax candles

DIY Beeswax Pillar Candles Without Heat

in DIY
Candles are lovely simple additions to any room to leave flickering in the evening after a long day. Their soft glow provides a delicate ambience especially gentle on tired eyes, and they are perfect for winding down in the living room or beside the bath. Unfortunately not all candles are as innocent as they seem! The Dangers of Conventional Scented Candles According to a scientific paper published in Atmospheric Environment, 2012: "burning of scented candles in an indoor environment can release a large number of toxic chemicals". The main pollutants that were detected during the study were BTEX, aldehydes and [...]

DIY Mango and Coconut Body Lotion Bars

in DIY
This weekend I've been whipping up some DIY beauty treats with my momma! We used up some homemade body lotion bars I made a few weeks ago (these lavender ones) so we decided to try a different mix of oils to add to the recipe for something with a more summertime vibe. What could be more delicious than some tropical inspired mango and coconut body lotion bars :) DIY Mango and Coconut Body Lotion Bars The recipe is so simple and very easy to make, this is what you will need; 1 cup mango butter 1 cup cocoa butter 1/2 cup [...]

DIY Natural Toxic-free Eyeliner

It goes without saying that the eyes and skin around the eyes are very sensitive so for the past few weeks I have been experimenting to create a homemade DIY natural and toxic-free eyeliner. Before going green I had been using L'Oréal Super Liner Gel and I found it difficult to part with it! Turns out that there is a very simple green solution, though I'm not sure how it took me so long to realise this little trick :) Activated Charcoal Eyeliner This sadly didn't work for me at all. I tried it two ways: first mixed with glycerin, [...]
DIY arrowroot & lemongrass deodorant

DIY Arrowroot and Grapefruit Deodorant

Ok so this is my 4th deodorant recipe... It's been a bit of a mission! I was very happy with the homemade witch hazel deodorant I was using but I fancied having something else that had an alternate scent (witch hazel has quite a strong scent that is difficult to mask/mix with essential oils). I did have a rather embarrassing moment when someone commented near me one day in a supermarket that something smelled very 'herby' like rosemary. It was actually me. There were no herbs around... And I probably used too much juniper, not rosemary. Awks. Anyway, I read [...]
Clove acne oil - April Lily Rose

DIY Clove Acne Treatment

Since reading about the skin benefits of clove oil, I have been testing it out in all sorts of DIY home remedies and skincare products including in a coffee sugar scrub and even bath bombs. Clove and cinnamon essential oils both have incredible medicinal properties including; naturally antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and clove oil is analgesic (powerful pain-reliever) - the perfect oils to create an acne treatment. My Acne Problems Before I began to use natural products, I had a problem with cystic acne mainly around my mouth, chin and mildly across my forehead. In conjunction with these red, inflamed [...]
DIY Wintery Body Lotion Bars

DIY Body Lotion Bars

I originally intended for these to be bath melts, but realised I don't like having oily baths (hair drama) so I decided to re-style them as body lotion bars. I know Lush have some of these in their stores, but they aren't 100% natural... These babies however, most certainly are! :D The Recipe The Base 1 cup unrefined cocoa butter 1/2 cup unrefined coconut oil or shea butter 1/2 beeswax (optional) To add aroma... Christmas 3 drops clove essential oil 3 drops sandalwood essential oil 1 drop ginger essential oil 1 drop black pepper essential oil Floral 4 drops lavender essential [...]
Mulled Wine Muslin

DIY Mulled Wine Spice Bags

in DIY
This year I'm going all out to do everything as super festive as possible, that I just didn't get round to doing in previous years. I can't quite believe I have managed to go through 24 years of my life without ever making my own mulled wine. And I only tried it for the first time last year at work! I decided that not only would it be really fun to make this at home for my family to enjoy around Christmas, but it would be a thoughtful and handy gift for friends and work colleagues. The Recipe For each muslin spice [...]

Christmas isn't really Christmas without candy canes. That's the law. Christmas Coffee Scrub

Winter Coffee And Sugar Scrub

in DIY
It's my Christmas series, and another pampering product I've been meaning to make for ages, is this homemade coffee sugar scrub! I've been getting quite lazy with exfoliating in the bath and almost always forget to body brush. So now I've made this sweet smelling scrub to keep by the bath, I have no excuse :) Exfoliating the skin encourages blood circulation which is great for keeping cellulite at bay and giving your skin a natural glow. Both the sugar and coffee grounds will help to buff the skin, whilst the vanilla extract and essential oils add an even more Christmassy aroma. It [...]
Christmas Bathtime Treat

DIY Christmas Snowman Bathbombs

in DIY
In the run up to Christmas and my time off work, I have been very excited to create some lovely pampering treats - all with a festive twist of course! I have been obsessed with everything that smells Christmassy and so decided to make these delicious, spicy, all-natural clementine and clove snowman bath bombs. They're much cheaper to make than shop bought bath bombs, super easy to make, plus you know exactly what is in them - with no preservatives, SLS or other harsh chemicals. The Recipe 1 cup (3 parts) sodium bicarbonate 1/4 cup (1 part) citric acid 10 drops clementine [...]
