Botanicals Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion Review

With the glorious hot weather these last few weeks, cooling lightweight body care products are what you need for summer. My trusted coconut oil is sitting on the reserve bench, whilst refreshing and quick-absorbing lotions are my current go-to in the morning. Natural and 91% organic, the Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion*, kindly sent to me from Botanicals, has been my in my daily routine for the past couple of months. Looking to try green beauty body care from a British brand? Read on for my Botanicals Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion review.

Botanicals Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion Review

Summer means a bit of fake tan for my lily white skin. I can get away with it if it’s cloudy and dull. But when the sun is beating down everyday and the air is hot and humid, there is no hiding in jeans and cardigans. In fact, my skin seems to contain no melanin at all. And so applying a lotion to mimic olive sunkissed skin is my only solution. I wonder why my skin wouldn’t want to absorb the sun’s kisses anyway….

Wearing fake tan makes me feel a bit embarrassed. My phoney bronzed glow is never quite bronze. Always somewhere closer to tangerine. And often some patchiness involved. This is where body lotion comes in to help me.

From trial and error I’ve found that creating my own gradual tan has better and more realistic results than throwing on fake tan undiluted. There’s also less risk of streaks and looking ridiculously neon orange. (A sad experience I had only 4 weeks ago. Blog post sharing this catastrophe will no doubt follow.)

So my tanning routine of late has been to mix my fake tan with Botanicals Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion. I have tried coconut oil but it is rather heavy. On hot sticky nights, I’d prefer not to bake under a thick layer of comedogenic oil suffocating my skin. My chest and back are prone to acne so a lightweight lotion has been more forgiving.

This Botanicals lotion is light enough not to stop my skin breathing, but rich enough to moisturise dry limbs. Unlike some soothing lotions, it’s not watery either.

P.S. The book is rather good too! It is a love story set in the midst of the Second World War, called The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, one of my numerous reads for this summer 🙂

Scent

Surprisingly for a body lotion containing lemongrass and mandarin, it smells of neither. A slight shame for me as I love sweet and bitter citrusy scents. It might be the mix of flax, cocoa, olive and sunflower oils by Botanicals, which makes it smells a lot like peppermint.

Worth buying?

Botanicals are an award-winning brand, with their products being recognised by the Beauty Bible, Green Parent, The Natural and Organic Awards and FreeFrom Skincare Awards. They have a strict ethics policy and many glowing product review on their website. All of which makes them a brand you can trust as high quality and good for your skin.

I’ve really enjoyed using this lotion and would recommend it for problem and sensitive skin. At £23 for 200ml, Botanicals Lemongrass Mandarin Body Lotion is a worthwhile investment.
