A Sheer Summer Pink | Ilia Shell Shock

A Sheer Summer Pink | Ilia Shell Shock

Lipsticks can be hard work sometimes. They require constant applications during the day and after everything you eat or drink, for which you must use a mirror or else look like the Joker from Batman, and most frustrating of all they can have a tendency to dry lips. My lips are extraordinarily dry anyway so I find it a struggle to be best friends with lipstick.Β It’s like I have lizards stuck to my face sometimes. This summer, I have been keen to go for a pretty lip colour without a matte finish, which is super easy to apply when out and about with minimal fuss.

I actually bought this lip conditioner from Ilia in early spring but was too obsessed with my Hurraw! Black Cherry Tinted Lip Balm (a lovely crimson red and tastes of juicy ripe cherries) to wear in the colder months. Now that we’re enjoying a delightful heatwave, I’m loving Ilia Shell Shock to throw in my bag and go! I like that I can apply it without needing a lip liner or a mirror, though it would equally look amazing with a lip pencil – I’ve been eyeing the Alva Coleur Lip Liner in Soft Rose and the Inika Lip Liner in Nude Delight (both carmine-free)Β which I think would work beautifully.

Application

I really really *really* enjoy applying this lip conditioner (yes really): it’s without doubt the most moisturising lipstick I own to date and it truly feels like I am wearing a lip balm, it’s that kind to my poor chapped lips! It does not feel uncomfortable to wear, lasts nicely through the day and just glides on like butter.

Swatch

The vibrancy of Ilia Shell Shock is anything but shocking. On many websites the colour is described as ‘bright coral pink’ which I don’t think is accurate at all. It is in fact more of a soft delicate pink reminiscent of romantic pale English cottage garden roses, offering a blush of colour with a sheer, slightly glossy finish. I’d even say it is ever so slightly on the cooler end of the spectrum, which means it looks pretty fly on pale chicks. The build-ability is also good and you can add more layers to increase the intensity of the colour (in the swatch above I applied about 4 layers on my hand). If you’re shy with lipstick you will probably like this πŸ™‚

I’m so glad I came across your blog, your reviews are really helpful. I am using a wonderfully creamy Benecos lipstick, which I’m really satisfied with – it’s natural, but I’m not sure if it contains carmine or not. I am looking forward to trying Ilia products – I heard so many good things about products from this brand.

Anyway, I will definitely be dropping by again soon! x
